To figure out the hight of a building you can use a combination of “Match Photo” in SketchUp and Google Earth imagery. After you have traced the photo in SketchUp, import Google Earth imagery. Measure the length of the building on Google Earth. Rescale the model using this length. You will now have a better estimation of the height.

In the world of PPC, Google AdWords still holds the reign over the other pay per click marketing options. The only one that comes close is Yahoo’s sponsored search marketing (previously known as Overture), and even that has made changes to imitate Google’s AdWords.

Using AdWords can increase traffic and has a huge ability to increase your knowledge within your market, as well as knowledge about your potential clients. However – not knowing how to use it properly can sometimes cause startling expenditures, and this can often scare people away from using it at all. Here are seven tips to help you get started on AdWords with a better grasp on this powerful tool.

7 Google AdWords Tips and Tricks

  1. Turn off Content at first – You’ll want to turn off the “content network” option inside your campaign settings when you start. This is something that can often lose a lot of money, with a very small CTR. If you do want to use it, I recommend starting with the search network, learning what your converting keywords/ad groups are, and then starting a separate campaign with only content network ads running. And also consider choosing which sites your ads run on explicitly. This will enable you to check and see just where your ads will show, and if it’s a good site to match with your market. As usual, test and track, and keep the ones with the best conversions.
  2. Run 2 Ads At A Time – Always, always run two ads at a time. This will make sure you can keep increasing your CTR by checking to see which ad performs better, then making that the control and rewriting the other ad. It’s good to get at the very least 30 clicks before deciding on a winner.
  3. Set a Daily Budget – A lot of people aren’t aware this is an option, and some keywords can cost thousands of dollars within a few hours. Make sure you set a budget you can live with so you don’t find yourself spending a huge amount of money before you can make adjustments. This setting is inside the campaign settings.
  4. Use Different Match Types – There are 3 match types: Broad, Phrase, and Exact. Knowing how each works is crucial to having a good campaign. If nothing else, know that by just putting words in your ad groups, they default to broad match. Broad match will match all searches with those words in any order, as well as any searches containing words with similar meaning (using latent semantic indexing). This means you may have a lot of searches that your ad shows up for that are not words you chose. And because of this you should…
  5. Use Negative Keywords – In your keywords research, if you think of keywords that may cause your ads to show but are not related to your campaign, be sure to put them in as negative keywords. You can do this in each ad group by simply putting a negative sign in front of your keywords (and in front of the first quote in negative keyword phrases), but often it’s best to just put it into your campaign negative keywords. You can find where to put negative campaign keywords inside your campaign page, where you’ll see “campaign negative keyword(s): Edit”.
  6. Keep Related Keywords in Separate Ad Groups – This is important for several reasons. If you toss all your keywords into one ad group, there’s a likely chance that no ad you can possibly write will entice people typing every one of these keywords. Keep your ad groups separate, so you can write unique ads that match with the keywords in that ad group. This will up your CTR. Also, ideally you should have unique landing pages for each ad group, if there is a page that is best for the keywords in that ad group.
  7. Track All Results – Tossing keywords into AdWords, crossing your fingers, and hoping for the best is not a good way to do pay-per-click marketing. Track everything so you can remove badly performing keywords, expand on exceptionally performing keywords, and adjust your ads. If you have a page on your site that anyone visiting would indicate a conversion, use AdWords’s conversion code option. This allows you to put code on that page so you can know exactly which keywords brought you conversions through your PPC. If this is possible on your page, do it! Knowing precisely which keywords convert will make your PPC campaign a monster, and jump your ROI through the roof.

With Google AdWords it is all about getting results and this can be done by fine tuning and optimizing your account. You want to be optimizing your campaigns and at the same time finding the perfect placement and getting low bids for your keywords. Below is some Google AdWords Tips so that you can hopefully optimize a campaign that is bringing in a good return of investment.

Identify your Goals

Some goals to start off with once you have some campaigns up and running are; Focus on your keywords and Ad placements, Focus and test the quality of your Ad Copy, Then you can test your landing page to make sure it is relevant to your ad and giving your visitors exactly what they expected from clicking on your ad.

Keep Things Organized

You will want to Organize your campaigns by Topics or Offers. Be sure that you target the right locations and languages for your offers. Create specific offers for your ad groups within your campaigns, This way you can target these ad groups more specifically and change the ads to meet the criteria or keywords you have in the ad group. Never duplicate your keywords, you would be basically be competing against yourself.

Choose Relevant Keywords and Placements

Choose your keywords carefully. Don’t be scared to go after long tailed keyphrases because they don’t have much monthly search volume, these keyphrases are probably a lot cheaper per click and the visitor is likely farther along in the buying process which means higher ROI. Make use of the keyword matching options. Chose your ads placements carefully , whether it be on the sponsored search (these ads are on the right hand side when you do a Google search) or on the content network (these ads appear on websites related to your ad copy, you can also select the sites you wish you ads to appear on as Google has a tool within your AdWords account to do so).

Make sure you put keywords in your ad copy, the Title of your ad is very important to get a couple keywords in there. Be sure to have your visitors arriving on the proper landing page that is relevant to your ad copy, remember they took an action by clicking your ad for a reason. There is no point having an ad copy about blue smurfs then having your visitors arrive on a page about care bears or inspector gadget. You like those analogies eh? Next your going to want to test the content on your landing pages to make sure it is effective, this can increase your conversions. Google offers a free tool to test your content called the Website Optimizer, which is completely free. Make sure your landing pages are attractive and easy to navigate to your visitors, also remember to make your calls to action stick out as people are not as bright as you are, even consider making a couple calls to action. Is is very important to keep your users experience in mind when creating your ads and landing pages, remember the ultimate goal is getting in their head as they are the ones taking the action. This includes not adding popups or popunders to your landing pages like your promoting Clickbank offers, and you always want your audience to be able to take that action to purchase within 3 clicks.

Track your Account Performance

Check your account Statistics, things like CTR, keyword status and first page bid estimates are a good indicators of how well your ads performance is. Monitoring things like impressions, CTR, average CPC or CPM, cost, average position, conversion rate, and cost-per-conversion are a great way at making decisions to better your ads performance. Be sure to also create reports on your campaigns and make use of Google Analytics to get the most information you possibly can about your visitors.

Test and Modify your Campaigns

Evaluate your ads performance and make necessary changes and if this isn’t working try changing things up like your calls to action or bidding options.
